Extreme fire Panther

Project home page: http://extreme-fire.com/SW-PANTHER.html

This mosfet is a bit expensive, but has a lot of cool features:

- active braking – my ICS has spring release, and I did not use it, since I installed Panteher. Spring was simply never partly compressed after single fire.

- 3 burst mode – this one is tricky. I wanted a short trigger pull to release 3 burst, but if you release it, it stops fireing. There is no way around this, since mosfet is not aware of fire selector position and uses duration of “shot” to figure out, what mode it’s on. So you need to press trigger for duration of at least 1.5 shot for him to realise, it’s in full auto mode. And it stops if you release trigger.

- rof decrease – usefull if you want to use some insane battery (like 11.2V 20C lipo)

and many more (check homepage).

You can also ask Terry (the guy that makes this mosfet) to give you alternative software that has better 3 burst support (still limited thou). It was written by Don from Canada, and his manual is here:
http://unconventional-airsoft.com/gfx/triggermaster/TMMKIII/V2.1-MkIII-Trigger-Master-Documentation.pdf

Both, Terry and Don, were very helpfull (in trying to get me understand limitations of 3burst mode).

Tanio koba vs Prometheus

11/22/09 2215 hours

Test setup:

ICS M4 cqb
new Tanio koba hop twist barrel and little used Prometheus 6.03 tightbore.
Both barrels 300mm, both cleaned just before test.
Shots were taken lying down, with gun lying on backpack, so it was pretty still.
Each target received 20 shots on semi-auto.
Range: 15m
Target diameter: 185mm (measured on outside circle)
FPS with hop-up set: 320 +/- 5 (similar on both barrels)

I was only interested in grouping, so I did not set scope again after I changed barrel from Tanio Koba to Prometheus.

Prometheus with Guarder 0.2 bbs:

02_prometheus

Tanio Koba with Guarder 0.2 bbs:

02_tanio_koba

Prometheus with ICS 0.25 bbs:

025_prometheus

Tanio Koba with ICS 0.25 bbs:

025_tanio_koba

Groupings were obviously better on Tanio Koba. With 0.25, half of shots hit black!

Most merchant state on their webpages that this barrel gives bb gyro spin, and that is obviously stupid.
The best explanation I found for spin was here:
http://www.airsoftforum.com/board/Tanio-Koba-Twist-Rifled-B-t147334.html

One review stated that with Tanio Koba, bb trajectory is straigth (in a sense it does not give you vertical hop-up distorsion). I did not notice any improvement with that. Also range increase was not really obvious, so it’s either minimal or none.

Gun was set in a way to give optimal theoretical performance to Tanio Koba (supposedly it looses it’s precision above 1J).

TODO:
see if Tanio Koba is more sensitive to dirt (most people say it is).
see how it perform on 120 spring.
see how it performs after some 30.000 shots.
